Business, trade and investment ties between Turkey and
\nIran, two competing powers in the region with a combined
\nGross Domestic Product (GDP) of $1.14 trillion1, have been
\nthwarted for decades from unleashing their full potential mainly
\nby the protectionist policies pursued by the Tehran regime for
\nvarious reasons.
\nFor one, Iran is keen to safeguard its relatively uncompetitive
\nindustry against Turkish manufacturing and industrial products,
\npreserve the hold of Mullahs and of the military on its economy.
\nThe ideological hostility toward Turkey, a predominantly Sunni
\nnation, coupled with the long-running historical rivalry in the
\nregion, has also played a significant role in impeding the further
\ndevelopment of the economic ties.<\/p>\n
