The International Institute for Iranian Studies (Rasanah) has published issue no. 12 of the Journal for Iranian Studies (JIS) in English. The issue includes five research articles as follows: first, \u201cThe Government and the Question of Legitimacy According to the Twelver Shiites\u201d by Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Ibrahim, Professor of History and Civilization, Faculty of Dar al-Ulum, Cairo University, chronologically reviews the historical transformations regarding the Twelver Shiite perspective on the legitimacy of establishing a government during the occultation period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second, \u201cThe Economic Dimensions of the US Sanctions on Iran and Their Repercussions on Iraq\u201d by Professor Nabil Jaafar Abdulrida, Professor of Economy, College of Administration and Economics, University of Basrah, reviews the impact of US sanctions on Iran and Iraq and their ramifications on the economies of both countries. The study also sheds light on the Iranian and Iraqi economies; their common characteristics and bilateral relations. Third, \u201cIran and the Lebanon Crisis\u201d by Dr. Muthanna al-Obaidi, a researcher on regional and international affairs, examines the extent of Iran\u2019s influence on Lebanon by highlighting Iran\u2019s presence in the country, particularly at the political, economic, security and military levels, and the degree of its soft power presence at the cultural and sectarian levels. Fourth, \u201cThe Active Front: The Consequences of Cyberwarfare Between Iran and Israel\u201d by retired Major General Ahmed bin Ali al-Maymouni, a researcher on military and security affairs at the International Institute for Iranian Studies (Rasanah), discloses the impact of cyberwarfare on both Iran and Israel considering the current international situation which has witnessed growing tensions and polarization over the Iranian issue. In addition, this study reviews the cyberspace attacks in the aftermath of growing tensions between Iran and Israel and the extent to which cyberwarfare is effective as an alternative to conventional warfare through analyzing the capabilities of both countries in cyberspace; the mutual attacks; the mutual escalation in recent times; and the opportunities and challenges in this sphere. Fifth, \u201cThe Effectiveness of Policies and the Levels of Influence,\u201d by Dr. Ali Fares al- Shammari, Associate, Professor in International and Strategic Studies at Nahrain University, discusses the pressure imposed by the United States as one of its tools to curb Iranian influence in the region. This is in addition to revealing how far Iran is capable of countering this pressure for an extensive period of time, and then identifying the alternative tools adopted by the United States during the final part of President Trump\u2019s term and the scope of their impact on Iran\u2019s strategy of confrontation. The study examines how developments in the US maximum pressure strategy \u2014 at the regional level via more effective policies \u2014 will help push Iran towards more engagement instead of the confrontational strategy it has adopted over the decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
