The International Institute for Iranian Studies (Rasanah) has issued the Iran Case File (ICF) for March 2024. The file provides readers in general and researchers in particular with an in-depth analysis and overview of Iran’s variant interactions and affairs. The file is divided into three parts main parts: Developments in Iran’s Internal Affairs, Iran-Arab Interactions and  Iran’s Relations With International Powers.

In March 2024, Iran witnessed significant developments across various spheres including the political economic, military, social, and ideological realms. The latest edition of Rasanah’s ICF  sheds light on four crucial issues that are worth considering. These include the potential dispute over the Parliament speakership, concerns about “hardliner” orientations, Iran’s successful launch of three satellites and conducting a joint naval drill with Russia and China, and unemployment rates in Iran and the different methods of calculation compared to international formulas. Additionally, our research team explores the ongoing debate over the next supreme leader and the legitimacy of the elections in the context of  hawza interactions.

The significance of Iran-Arab interactions in the Middle East cannot be overstated. Latest reports suggest that former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is seeking to reconcile with his rival Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrists. This development could have far-reaching implications for Iraq and Iran’s influence in the region. At the same time, the visit of the Syrian defense minister to Tehran is making waves among Iranian officials, given the growing tensions between the two countries. In this section of the ICF, our research team delves deeper into these topics and examines their potential impact on Iraq and Syria.

The delicate balance of international relations is at play once again as tensions escalate between Iran and the United States, despite reportedly secret talks brokered by Oman. Meanwhile, Iran’s involvement in regional attacks and arms support to Russia have significantly strained its relations with European countries. On the other hand, cooperation between Iran and Russia in economic, security and military fields, including maritime navigation with China, has been noteworthy. In this segment of the ICF, we will delve into the ongoing tensions in US-Iran relations, Iran’s provision of weapons to Russia, and the details of the joint naval drill between Russia, Iran and China.
