Yesterday, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guards unveiled a new drone for use by its naval units, suggesting it could be a “suicide drone” that would crash into ships, adding a new type of drones to its defense capabilities in both Air and Air-Maritime sectors. Also, Guards have “cruise” missiles, multiple speeds boats, warships, and helicopters, which are fully prepared to respond to any aggressive act.
The drone has an advanced maritime surveillance with the capability of being used at night and during the day, as well as the possibility of being used in damp sea conditions.
The drone was designed to fly as low as two feet (half a meter) above the water at a speed of around 200 kilometers (160 miles) per hour but could reach an altitude of 900 meters (3,000 feet).
Moreover, it could fly at a high cruising speed near the surface of the water; the aircraft can collide with the target and destroy it, either a vessel or an onshore command center.
This product can carry heavy payloads of explosives for combat missions to launch suicide attacks.
The drone is the second suicide product after Revolutionary Guards boats “O Mahdi,” which have the ability to carry out suicide missions as well.
Iran previously revealed a “suicide drone” in late 2014, described by the commander of ground forces in the Iranian army, Ahmed Reza Bordestan, as “walking bomb.” He also had explained that it had 250km range and high-quality camera preceded in November 2014, by the Iranian version of “RQ 170” US drones, which has been shot down in 2012 when it was on a reconnaissance mission in eastern Iran, as claimed.
