The International Institute for Iranian Studies (Rasanah) has released the June 2024 edition of the Iran Case File. The report aims to provide readers in general and researchers in particular with an in-depth analysis and overview of Iran’s variant interactions and affairs. The file is divided into three main parts: Developments in Iran’s Internal Affairs, Iran-Arab Interactions and Iran’s Relations With International Powers.

In June, Iran witnessed a series of significant developments that impacted its political, economic, military, social, and ideological spheres. In the first section of the ICF, our research team explores the influence of the recent presidential elections on Iran’s domestic landscape. This section discusses the following topics: the electoral process and its dynamics, economic policies being front and center at electoral debates, the religious and constitutional factors contributing to the disqualification of female candidates in the elections, the persistent issue of child labor, and developments surrounding Iran’s space and missile programs.

In its analysis of Iran-Arab relations, the publication highlights a period of relative calm, characterized by diplomatic activities. However, the establishment of Iranian polling centers in Syria was a nuanced case. These centers, seemingly, not only facilitated the voting process for Iranians in Syria but also served as a means to project influence.

Regarding Iran’s engagement with global powers, Iran-US relations in June were particularly affected by the electoral climate in both countries. The concurrent election periods added complexity to their engagements, particularly concerning regional issues and the nuclear file. The latter has also remained a critical point in Iran-Europe relations, among other issues, including prisoner swaps and the accompanying European discussions on how to deal with Iranian transgressions.
