The International Institute for Iranian Studies (Rasanah) has released the Iran Case File for July 2024. This report offers readers, especially researchers, an accurate description of the period under review, aiming to assess Iran’s situation and evaluate its various conditions and interactions. The report is divided into three sections: developments in Iranian domestic affairs, Iranian-Arab interactions, and Iran’s relations with regional and international powers.
Regarding internal developments, Iran experienced numerous shifts in July 2024 across the political, military, social, and ideological realms. Key issues include the challenges facing the new Iranian president as he officially assumes office, an arms deal between Iran and Armenia, ongoing efforts to establish a base in the Red Sea, the ethnic dynamics under President Masoud Pezeshkian, and the closure of the Iranian Islamic Center in Hamburg.
In terms of Iranian-Arab interactions, significant developments occurred. In Iraq, a political crisis emerged with Islamabad following a statement from Pakistan’s minister of religious affairs that around 50,000 Pakistani citizens had disappeared in Iraq. In Syria, several theories arose concerning the deaths of two prominent Syrian political figures, with speculation that they were killed either by an order from President Bashar al-Assad or due to the Iranian-Russian conflict over interests in Syria. These interactions with Arab and regional countries were highlighted through issues such as the controversy in Iraq over the disappearance of thousands of Pakistanis, ongoing attacks in the Jurf al-Sakhar area, the deaths of Muhammad al-Qatirji and Luna al-Shibl, the conflict of interests in Syria, and the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, which underscores the intelligence war between Iran and Israel.
