Ebtekar editorial deals with aftermaths of recent presidential election for both fundamentalists and reformists in Iran, now that after two months, Hassan Rouhani will start his second term of the presidency from next week.
After May presidential election in Iran, the editorial holds, the two factions’ rivalry over the election result has subsided, and now political disputes are more inside each faction. While fundamentalists who were defeated in the election are fighting and blaming each other, the reformists, too, are disputing over their shares of power in the new government.
According to Ebtekar editorial, some fundamentalist individuals and groups are openly criticizing each other, accusing the other for defeat in the election, while calling themselves genuine fundamentalists. Mir-Salim is openly attacking Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf for extensive violation and corruption by him and his friends in Tehran municipality. And recently Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in an open letter to the young fundamentalists, heavily criticized the fundamentalists, saying that the only way is to surpass traditional fundamentalists, and move towards neo-fundamentalism.
The reformists, the editorial says, are going through an internal war over their shares in the new cabinet and its arrangement. In the internal war of each faction, the editorial concludes, what is forgotten is the people who in “battlefield of democracy” believed slogans and views of one of these factions and voted for them.

» Fundamentalism is dead!
Bahar Daily’s editorial deals with problems that fundamentalists in Iran are facing these days. Somebody attacks fundamentalists and talks of neo-fundamentalists, the other talks of “numerous violations” which he wanted to mention against his opponent in the second round of the election, and the third one and his followers are new comers who are busy promoting a pop singer to strengthen their fundamentalism!
According to the editorial, what is interesting is that each group claims that real fundamentalism is their interpretation of it. By carefully looking, one can see that senior fundamentalist figures are silently observing what is going on and prefer to get closer to moderate currents in the country, distancing themselves from the so-call fundamentalists these days.
The editorial holds that today fundamentalists have two options: either bring back those silent observers to their previous positions, or a fundamentalism in which a pop singer is one of the experts is dead.
Fundamentalists must admit, says the editorialist, that some of their measures have created questions and doubts among their supporters. “Today, people can very well realize the difference between hypocrisy and reality.”

» Durability of political geography in the Middle East
Shahrvand editorial deals with the result of regional disputes in the Middle East. The end of major strategic disputes in a region will be changes in the political geography, and if transcontinental forces meddle with these disputes, the changes will be more fundamental. The editorial gives the examples of disputes in Europe during the first and the second world wars, in which hegemony and expansionism of belligerent governments ended up in dividing these countries and their allies.
Shahrvand editorial then focuses on the Middle East, which is witnessing a serious dispute, in which transcontinental forces are playing a role. The editorial asks if the strategic consequence of this dispute will end in changes in political geography in the countries of the region. The current dispute in the Middle East, unlike the world wars in the 20th century, is not the result of expansionism of any countries in the region. And at the end of the conflicts in the Middle East, none of the regional countries will be called as expansionist or beginner of war, because the current dispute is the result of creating an extremist mechanism and shaping terrorist groups on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
The editorialist does not believe that by the end of these disputes in the region, there will be any changes in political geography in the Middle East, because the destruction of ISIS and other terrorist groups will not create any security vacuum, requiring changes in the political arrangement of the region. But with the end of the terrorist crisis in the Middle East, the necessity of changes in political geography in West Bank of Jordan River through peaceful, diplomatic ways will draw the attention of the world.

» Shadows of Chinese dragons over NATO
This editorial deals with the significance of recent military cooperation between Russia and China in Baltic Sea and its relation to NATO. The writer says NATO’s confrontation with Russia is nothing but a legacy of cold war, while its confrontation with China is both strange and new. This was what the West did not expect for at least a few decades, yet it has already kicked off by the Russian-Chinese Naval Interaction-2017, a joint naval drill in Baltic Sea.
The writer says Russia has competed with the West since the cold war over economic, trade and geopolitical interests in Baltic. Given the oil and gas sources in this region, the competition has become even more serious. But China has no such interests in Baltic. Its goals become clear in the next joint drill with Russia in mid-September in Japan Sea.
The editorial concludes that in the current maneuver, Russia, accompanied by Chinese forces, shows NATO that it is not alone in its confrontation. And in September maneuver, China will show Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S. that it can have Russia at its side in any sea conflict. For China, the current maneuver is not just a strategic cooperation with Russia but aims at having a presence in the international arena to prove its military capabilities to its western rivals.

♦ U.S. Navy ship fired warning shots at IRGC boat
U.S. defense officials said that an American warship has fired warning shots towards an IRGC boat. According to these officials, USS Thunderbolt fired these shots when a fast boat ignored the warship’s efforts to have radio call with it. According to this report, IRGC boat came within 140 meters of the warship, and the Iranians did not respond to any warnings from the U.S. ship, including the radio calls, firing of flares, and blasts from the U.S. warship’s whistle.
A few hours later, IRGC issued a statement with different story. The statement claimed that it “prevented the U.S. warship’s provocative move against an Iranian Navy patrol boat.” The statement also said that the U.S. warship aimed at instigating and frightening the Iranian boat by firing two shots.

♦ Lawmaker: Number of unemployed more than existing statistics
Shahreza MP Somayeh Mahmoudi said when a permit is issued for a factory or a manufacturing unit, the jobs created by it will be stipulated in the permit, and will later be announced as employment statistics by officials. Meanwhile, many of these manufacturing units will be never created.
In a meeting to investigate issues and problems of Shahreza, Somayeh Mahmoudi urged that permit for establishing big stores must be issued in coordination with city managers, because the current procedure is not to the benefit of different regions. She added constructing such big stores in a city like Shahreza which has a long record in the field of small businesses would culminate in shutting down many of these businesses.

♦ 4 suspects arrested in relation to poisoning with alcoholic beverages in Sirjan
Public and revolutionary prosecutor of Kerman province Dadkhoda Salari announced arrest of 4 suspects in relation to the case of poisoning with alcoholic beverages. Salari added that so far 156 people have been hospitalized, 70 people are going through dialysis.
Kerman prosecutor said 3 people are in critical conditions, and 5 people have lost their lives due to poisoning. He added that a truck driver had prepared two 20 liter-gallons of homemade alcoholic beverages in Isfahan and had distributed it in Sirjan.

♦ Law enforcement: Government distribution of drugs must be based on protocol
Spokesperson of Iran’s law enforcement Brigadier-General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi said implementing the plan of distributing drugs by the government must be done through a certain protocol. Pointing out to inherent duties of the police force and what is assigned to it in Article 638, he added that police must naturally take part in this field, trying to preserve the values and achievements of the regime.
As for the police’s duties regarding hijab and public chastity, Brigadier-General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi further mentioned that according to in the law, the priority is given to social and cultural measures; and as the last resort, negative actions will be taken by the police forces.

♦ Iran to buy 12 Sukhoi jets from Russia
Russian media announced the agreement between Iran and Russia for purchasing 12 Sukhoi jets. They might sign another contract for buying 30 more aircrafts in future. Previously a Russian official had said selling these aircrafts to Iran required the agreement of American producers of the aircraft’s parts.
Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak had previously announced Iran’s plan for purchasing 12 passenger Sukhoi jets, stressing that Moscow is willing to launch a production line for parts and equipments of Russian aircrafts in Iran.

♦ Iran to produce civilian helicopters
Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) is going to produce civilian helicopters in Iran with cooperation of a Russian company. Abulfazl Kiyani, deputy of planning in IDRO announced signing a contract with Russian Helicopters Co. for producing civilian helicopters, adding that IDRO intends to cooperate with the Russian company in producing helicopters.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told New York Times that Washington must understand that JCPOA is not a bilateral, but a multilateral agreement. Zarif added that America must realize that international community believes this agreement has achieved its goals.

Deputy of Entrepreneurship Development and Employment in Labor Ministry Issa Mansouri said companies from Italy and Canada have come to Iran to sign contracts in the field of clothing production. Mansouri asserted that domestic infrastructures have been prepared for producing clothing and cooperation with famous brands from Turkey and other European countries.

Gholam Reza Heidari, the member of Omid [Hope] Fraction in the parliament, said some commanders of law enforcement have been arrested due to committing a violation in selling oil. Head of Budget and Planning Commission in Iranian Parliament Gholam-Reza Tajgardoon said that during past 4 years, the government has effectively helped in the field of defense and particularly to IRGC. He added that the issues related to contracts between the government and IRGC are to some extent resolved, and currently, Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters will not participate in those cases which are in the capacity of domestic contractors.
Tajgardoon asserted, “During years that I worked with the government and defense sector, there was no concern on government’s behalf regarding executive affairs and providing resources for defense sector and particularly IRGC.”

♦ Distributing governmental drugs will increase addiction
Spokesperson of Iran Drug Control Headquarters Parviz Afshar pointed out to the proposal of Judiciary Commission of the Parliament regarding the plan for distribution of narcotic drugs by the government and said that unlimited distribution of narcotic drugs in the society is unprecedented in the world, and will end up in an increase in using drugs.
Afshar added that during past few days, there was a news about this proposal on Internet, which looked like distribution of opium and drugs before the Iranian revolution for elderly addicts in the country. He urged that the idea of “managing consumption” means cutting or reducing the relationship between smugglers and users through a comprehensive, balanced outlook.

Head of Iran’s Emergency Organizations Pir-Hossein Kolivand announced that 99 people in the city of Sirjan, Kerman Province, were poisoned due to consumption of home-made alcoholic beverages, and 5 people lost their lives. Head of Justice in Kerman Province Yadollah Movahed emphasized that given the sensitivity of the issue and the damage incurred to psychological security of the society, this case will be dealt with urgently.

♦ Boroujerdi: Iran will not renegotiate JCPAO
Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security of Parliament Alaeddin Boroujerdi believes that none of the countries that negotiated the nuclear deal with Iran would accept the U.S. suggestion for renegotiating it. Boroujerdi said after months of negotiations, a document was signed by all negotiators, and then approved by UN Security Council. Therefore, it makes no sense to renegotiate it.
Boroujerdi called Trump’s remarks about negotiating JCPOA again illogical, stressing that the Iranian Republic of Iran will not accept such illogical suggestion at all. ♦ Zibakalam: Second cultural revolution is for brainwashing students
Sadegh Zibakalam, professor of political sciences at Tehran University, believes that Islamicizing human sciences in Iran are after an ideological goal, which is to make students accept state beliefs as the truth. He has asked Hassan Rouhani to stop this anti-science and merely political process.
In an open letter to Rouhani, Zibakalam has called Islamicizing human sciences in Iranian University a “mirage” and “brainwashing the students”. Deputy to Crisis Management Headquarters in Kerman Province Abulghassem Seifollahi reported a 4.5 magnitude earthquake in Sirch village in Kerman, some 1,100 kilometers south of Tehran. He added that some old walls in this region collapsed due to the earthquake. Seifollahi said there have been 4 aftershocks in this region so far.

Iranian MP Ahmad Hamzeh said the statistics show that most of those who quit studying in the country are from southern cities in Kerman Province such as Ghaleh Ganj and South Rudbar. Hamzeh added sometimes the students have to quit studying because their families cannot afford to pay for their children’s books. In deprived regions, some people live on their subsidies, and their priority is not their children’s educations, he asserted. The other reason for quitting study, said this lawmaker, is that in some areas, female students have to walk for several kilometers to get to school, which is not acceptable to their families.

Managing director of Jomhouri Eslami daily Massih Mohajeri said Rouhani made some suggestions to Nateq Nouri, but he didn’t accept them, adding that Nateq Nouri will not undertake any executive position. Mohajeri asserted that even though holding meetings among leaders of Moderation Party for taking significant decisions is a good idea, they have differences of opinions which might prevent the success of such meetings.

Public relation of Hamzeh Seyed-ol-Shohada Base of IRGC’s Ground Force announced that there was a clash between their forces and armed men in the northwest of Iran, in which 3 were killed and 4 were wounded. According to the statement of public relation, “a number of terrorists” who intended to enter the country for “terrorist actions” failed, following a heavy clash with IRGC forces. In this clash, one member of IRGC was killed, and one was wounded.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi severely criticized the new U.S. administration for not fulfilling JCPOA obligations in a meeting with Yukiya Amano, Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency. Araghchi, who is participating in the 8th JCPOA joint commission in Vienna, emphasized the “significance” and “sensitivity” of IAEA’s role in overseeing the implementation of JCPOA in a “completely impartial manner.”

♦ 21 loses their jobs in Ahwaz everyday
Governmental officials in Ahwaz province have expressed concerns about employment and industries in their province. Omid Hajati, Head of Management and Planning Organization in Ahwaz, pointed to the lack of liquidity and investment as the problems the industry is facing in his province. In its latest report, the Statistical Center of Iran announced rate of unemployment in Ahwaz 15.3 percent in spring this year which shows 6 percent increase compared to last year.
