Editorials of Iranian newspapers on Thursday morning, July 18, 2017, discussed the future of political and economic life in Iran, and highlighted Ahmadinejad’s candidacy in the presidential elections in 2017, as well as providing a solution to help Iran out of the current economic and political crisis.
As for the news, Chinese-Iranian talks to develop two oilfields, along with the excellent opportunity for Iranian exports to Russia in light of Turkey’s absence. As well as the objection of the Zoroastrians to the Governor of Khorramshahr, determining a proposed date for the elections of 2017, the arrival of the first S-300 missiles shipments to Iran and the news of buying a nuclear reactor from Bulgaria is false.
“Look at his hands,” In its editorial, Ebtekar Newspaper discussed the probability of Ahmadinejad’s return back to the political life after the coming presidential elections. It says that the Iranian intellectuals can’t find any logical explanation about the reasons for emergence and vanish of Nejad. First of all, we have to understand what has happened and how. How Ahmadinejad was received by the warm welcome in villages and cities, and who were those that gathered to greet and welcome him? So far there is no clear theory to understand it and prevent the recurrence of Ahmadinejad’s phenomenon. The editorial is clearly reflecting the politicians concerns of Ahmadinejad’s presence in the upcoming presidential elections and the possibility of winning the presidency, despite the disastrous economic situation in Iran during his reign. He is currently touring the Iranian cities, including Malard and people rally to welcome him, which has shocked the Iranian political elite.
“Corruption and unemployment are obstacles toward the recovery of the Iranian economy” Etemad newspaper analyzes the reasons for the inability of the Iranian economy to deal with external shocks. The editorial says that any economy standing in the face of external shocks reflects its strength and status. Current conditions portray that Iran has no insecurity or political turmoil, but people trust in the Ruling Authority needs to be intensively enhanced. The editorial also stated that the main reasons for the deterioration of the Iranian economy are corruption and unemployment.
The editorial says that the inappropriate economic policies in Iran have led factories to operate less than 20% of their actual capacity. One of the poor economic indicators resulted from corruption is that savings rate is higher than investment rate. According to the editorial, this is an episode of the shocking realities to the Iranian people over the four decades of the revolution at which deterioration of the economic conditions was attributed to the economic sanctions and hate of the outside world toward Iran. people found out after the nuclear deal that the economic poor management by the regime, uncontrolled corruption and fraud are the direct causes of their low standards of living, but not the external pressure as has been claimed. In addition to that, the hostility of Iran and its interference in others’ affairs is greater than the desire of others to interfere in Iran’s affairs.
“Where are we going?” Etela’at Newspaper handled the political and economic future of Iran a year after the nuclear deal. The editorial says that the economic sanctions have been repealed, but there are other reasons rather than the nuclear file for those sanctions that were imposed for more than thirty-seven years, since the beginning of the Iranian revolution such as human rights violations, support of terrorism, and the ongoing ballistic missile experiments. That is why foreign banks refrain from doing business with Iran so as not to be exposed to huge financial penalties by the US banking organizations just like what happened with the French BNP Bank that was fined $ 9 billion. The editorial states that the Iranian foreign and domestic policies are still confined to certain individuals who give no attention to the Iranian people’s interests and harm the country through their attempts to thwart Rouhani’s policies. In the end, the editorial brings up a solution for the Iranian political and economic crises that, in general, focuses on regional issues away from internal affairs, which reflects the writer’s despair of any internal solutions to the Iranian crises.
